Getting Started With A Restaurant Business

Getting Started With A Restaurant Business

Greg Pierce

The following are some tips to consider when starting up a restaurant business. For starters, develop a business plan. Your plan should incorporate your mission, vision, goals and objectives and your ways to be able to realize these goals.

Try to come up with ways on how you are going to finance for the furniture, equipment, and over-all furnishing. You may decide to apply for a bank loan if needed. Unless perhaps you just inherited a considerable sum of money, the financing has to come from an outside source. Then the accounts payable would be something to consider. A short term accounts payable will take as long as the operation cycle of the business or to be exact 12 months. Long term accounts payable, however, would take about 2 years or more.

The location is another thing to consider. For this sort of business, location can either make it or break it. Depending on your target customers, sometimes the location would depend on this. If your business is targeting the rich and the affluent, then your restaurant should be located in a posh area of the city. Your location should be near the university belts if your target customers are students. Sometimes accessibility wouldn’t matter to this kind of business’ location because if the food and service is good, people would flock to your restaurant wherever it is located.

The ambiance is also very important. This is where the design would come in. It would depend on your target customer. Theme restaurants are very in nowadays and a lot of businessmen have come up with a lot of crazy concepts. The zaniest theme restaurants that I ever saw were created by the Japanese.

There was one theme they came up with which was a toilet theme. The food was being served in bowls shaped like water closets and the chairs themselves were actual water closets. Then there’s another theme restaurant that got their idea from a hospital. Every table had hangers on each corner because the drinks were being served in dextrose bags and the diners sipped these drinks from the hoses.

You can give it to the Japanese to come up with madcap ideas like these. Usually, these restaurants try to stir the curiosity. The consumers go to these restaurants because they are curious. The restaurant achieves a museum status where tourists are drawn to.

Perhaps culture has also something to do with it because the theme restaurants in the US are limited to celebrity appeal such as Planet Hollywood and Fashion Cafe.
