I’m Chinese/Cantonese, and sometimes really, REALLY crave Chinese food. Since moving to Santa Cruz, it’s been hard to find anything really “authentic” for my taste. But, Canton is the closest I’ve gotten. Everything I’ve tried has been good quality/taste. The Chinese Chicken Salad’s pretty good, as is the Sizzling Rice Soup, Walnut Shrimp and Chow Fun (what I usually get). I just wouldn’t say this place is fully authentic or super spectacular, but I’m a hard critic for Chinese food. I also wouldn’t say this place is very “Cantonese”, as the name suggests. If it were, I’d like to see more dim sum-like items on the menu (my absolute FAVORITE food on the planet!) For now, it’s my go-to…Always delicious and fresh food,never greasy or weird ‘mystery meat’, friendly staff, great prices (esp lunch menu), very nice atmosphere. I have lived in the county 26 years and this is now my favorite Chinese joint. Try the Garlic Chicken with the Hot and Sour Soup!
